Formerly known as Crap Cleaner, CCleaner is a free piece of software that can be used to wipe clean all the junk files from your Windows-powered computer. You can get rid of things like unused browser temp files, cookies, items in the recycle bin, AutoComplete form history, log file, system caches, application data, and all sorts of other data that clutters your computer. On top of this, CCleaner comes with a handy Registry Cleaner function that will identify problems in the Windows Registry and attempt to correct said problems.

The thing is that the Microsoft developed Windows operating system run properly good – when you first install the OS. In time, it will get slower and bloated, process popularly known as “Windows rot”. Thanks to CCleaner you can remove unused files from your system, repair the Windows registry, an even select which programs will run at startup – all of these will make Windows run faster, and will clear up much needed HDD space.


CCleaner is fast, reliable, and easy to use. The user interface is so simple that even if you have never used any PC-cleaning application in the past, you will have no problem putting CCleaner to work. The software’s logically designed interface lets you tell CCleaner what you want to do and it will do precisely what you tell it to at breakneck speed.

As a matter of fact, I have to say that its speed is the one thing that got me hooked. It may not have as many bells and whistles as similar PC-cleaning tools, and it’s registry cleaner may not be as good as say Registry Mechanic, but all the things it does, it does them very fast. Don’t be put off by this speed thing, if you are a novice computer user. Before performing a task, CCleaner asks for confirmation whether you want it to perform that task or not. Don’t be put off by the fact that I said other, similar software applications come with more bells and whistles. CCleaner comes with enough features to make it download worthy; and all of this free of charge.

One more thing. CCleaner comes with support for a multitude of languages: English, Spanish, German, French, Chinese, Gallego, Italian, Portuguese BR, Russian, and Turkish.
